Not sure why people have so many bad reviews about this hotel! We were greeted at the front desk when checking in and check in took maybe 5 minutes, which is great when you have 4 kids with you and we were there at 4pm! Our room was the ocean view 2 bedroom efficiency, which had plenty of space for 6 people! It was clean, the beds were very comfortable and no signs of bedbugs which other reviewers complained they had issues with. There were 2 bathrooms and an extra vanity outside one of the bathrooms, which was nice for getting ready while someone was taking a shower or using the bathroom, 2 tvs, 2 balconies, 2 air conditioners that worked great, table and chairs, a full size kitchen and a desk. Very easy access to the beach from the hotel and the pools, hot tubs and lazy river were all in good condition, clean and great for all ages. We included breakfast with our stay and it was well worth it. Vista 9 is the restaurant on the 9th floor of the hotel that serves breakfast and it had plenty of seating and great oceanfront views, very relaxing! The food was very filling and served as a hot breakfast buffet, which means you can fill up your plate as many times as you want. Eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, grits, biscuits and gravy, waffles, muffins, omelets made fresh with tons of different ingredients to choose from, bagels, toast, cereal, yogurt, and fresh fruit! Definitely worth eating breakfast at the hotel rather then trying to find a breakfast restaurant that is more expensive and you only get one plate! Checkout was very easy, I just walked up to the front desk handed them my room keys and armbands and they thanked me for staying and then I was on my way out to my car. The only negative thing I have to say about our stay is that the parking garage is small and if you are out and get back to the hotel after dinner time there are no parking spaces in the garage. They have a parking area across the street from the hotel that is not paved or covered. It's just a lot with sand and some patches of grass and that is where you will end up parking. Other then that we had a good stay and we enjoyed the hotel and we will be returning for our next beach visit!

Honestly would have given the hotel closer to a three, but the staff was exceptional! I never saw an employee that didn't smile, tell me to have a nice day, walk me to whatever I was looking for, answered every question with a smile. Just unbelievably accommodating and friendly. That being said the hotel itself was a little run down. Our particular room was very clean and appeared to have new carpet - but some of the furniture was pretty worn and the hallways and elevators were old. Elevators were very small with no air and you really had to wait on check in/check out days. We talked to another couple on the beach and they were not so happy with their room - so sounded like some had been partially remodeled but not others. The pool areas were great. Very clean and huge with a pool bar and grill and lots of water spouts, lazy rivers and stuff for kids. Not sure pool area would be so great for a single person or a couple, but there were plenty of lawn chairs. We stayed on the beach the whole time. Parking building was ample, but be sure to park on underground or first floor if you have to use a luggage trolley, the others have stairs between building and hotel. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurants but Loco Gecko next door was fantastic. Overall a good stay and no big complaints. But for the money and with so many options available I'd probably try somewhere else next time.
Just finishing our 6 night stay at Captains Quarters. Let me start by saying I was already nervous after reading reviews. In fact I had emailed them several times and finally called after getting no response. The reason for calling? I had seen that you really need to be staying in the "remodeled area". I let them know that for the amount of money I was paying I should be in a remodeled room. When I finally got an answer I was told I could "upgrade for free WITHOUT a kitchen or I could pay an extra $300 for a "remodeled room" with a kitchen" I wanted the ability to save money so we opted for the kitchen. The room we got was "ok" but if it is what is remodeled I HATE to see what is the not remodeled area. It seemed clean. But I can tell you that I am not sure why since the maid cleaned ONCE in six nights. We were offered towels when I took towels TO the maid, but that was it. On our third day we found a roach in our room. They offered to move us, but we had SO much stuff. They sent pest control and gave us $90 back (the cleaning fee). Beds aren't the greatest and are much lower to the ground than a typical hotel. If you are considering booking with a kitchen-keep these things in advisement. They advertise to provide some kitchen essentials. You get some silverware (4 mismatched forks, spoons, butter knives, a can opener, a spatula, and a spoon) A small pan in the oven, three glass bowls and a colander, and 4 glasses to drink and 4 mugs. There is nothing to cook in. (Not a single pan or pot). Luckily I brought a small frying pan. The kitchen was clean I will give them that. The bathroom is defintely out dated and VERY small. If you are sitting on the toilet-you can't open the door it's so close to the toilet. I can touch both walls with my hands when I spread my arms. Very small, water pressure is ok, and does get hot. TV was updated (maybe that is what they updated). About the same time as the roach was fine we also started smelling pot in our room. It lasted for about two days. Horribly strong. They said they would let security know. Ocean view was good. If you want a chair by the pool be advised that every single chair is saved by 8 a.m-you aren't supposed to do this but it's been that way every single day we have been here. Their indoor lazy river doesn't move-but the lazy river outside next door (that you can also use) is a little better. One huge downfall is the elevators-extremely slow. We were on the 9th floor and had to wait a huge amount of time for an elevator and they were so small that the four of us and our beach stuff was all that would fit. There's a lot of elevators but 4-5 people waiting at every single one, and when they open up they are typically full and you have to wait for another one. Parking is horrid. If you leave to do anything good luck finding a parking spot when you get back. Free bowling is nice but you have to pay $4 for shoes-so it isn't free. Especially or a family of four. The arcade in the bowling alley charges $1-$2 a game. The "kids club" is a joke. There is 4-5 younger people sitting by the pool that have 4-5 things scheduled-most of which you have to pay for. It is super close to the beach, so for that I gave it two starts. We are definitely coming back to MB-but will be looking elsewhere to stay.
We have stayed at CQ twice before and loved it, but we took a trip the end of May for a 3rd visit and this time took our kids along instead of it being a couples only trip. The kids loved the pools and beach, but the indoor pool floor was so rough it cut my son's (5) legs all up and my youngest (2) had cuts on his butt from the baby pool cutting through a swim diaper! The water was cold too, for being indoors we expected it to be a bit warmer. Our 3 year old was not impressed whatsoever. The bowling alley had the music way too loud for just 2 families being in there and we had our kids crying from ear aches by the time we left (only bowled one game). The room was ok as we usually stay in the same room every time, but they changed the furniture in there since our last visit and it was NOT comfortable at all! Plus they changed the fridge which had the door opening on the wrong side and it was jammed up against the trim to our other room so we ended up cutting up our knuckles constantly. The housekeeping never brought us extra towels as we requested, and they never came in and vacuumed and there was sand everywhere. The lights in the room kept shorting out and we were constantly afraid of a fire starting. Calls to the front desk did nothing. The vista 9 is usually amazing food and service but it was horrible this time! Never had just plain eggs, juice machine was constantly empty and the servers were just rude. There was construction going on in the hallways all night long, and during the day our doors were blocked by them painting and scraping. The plastic they used to wrap the poles and lights in the halls blew around all night not only keeping us up but scaring the kids to the point they screamed all night terrified. The paint fumes were horrible and not one person spoke English to get them to move when we tried leaving our room. We left 2 days early. When checking out I mentioned my concerns and basically got no where. We had loved this resort but not so sure I want to spend money here again until I know it's changed. Crappy considering it was super affordable and the perfect getaway for hubby and I who have an anniversary coming up and were looking to book again!
